Telstra and Aspera Team Up to Bolster Telstra’s Digital Video Network (DVN) with High-speed File Transfers & File Sharing

Leading Australian Telecommunications Company Selects Aspera’s Patented FASP Technology to Enable Secure, High Performance File Sharing for its Broadcast and Media Customers

IBM today announced that Telstra, Australia’s largest telecommunications and media company, has partnered with Aspera, an IBM Company to deliver a jointly-built Media networking solution with global reach that aims to facilitate video contribution and distribution enabling acceleration and simplification of content workflow in support of the Multi-platform needs of broadcast and media organizations.

In response to increasing demand for high quality, low latency, highly available media content,  the new Telstra Digital Video Network (DVN) supports  an increased range of media content formats and access requirements including: Linear Video [4K, HD, SD, ASI, IP], File based media content, Media Data & Itinerant pay-per-use services. Telstra DVN now provides additional value to customers by integrating Aspera into the solution, enabling customers to achieve secure, high performance and reliable media file transfers within their environments, within the Telstra DVN Media Community and to anywhere in the world.

This groundbreaking convergence of technologies will provide unique benefits to an extensive  customer base and support a wide variety of use cases, including ad hoc field-based contributions, inter-studio video sharing, inter-company content sharing and automated file-based workflow processes. The solution will help organizations manage their real-time and non-real-time video and workflow requirements.  

Aspera will be deployed within a Telstra hosting environment based in Australia and will be available in two editions of the Managed File Transfer application: (i) Web Edition; which offers a user interface designed for transfer and sharing of large files and directories, enabling user-to-user file transfers in a multi-tenanted environment; and the upcoming (ii) Server Edition, which offers a deeper workflow integration and supports advanced automated workflow tasks such as encoding, transcoding, watermarking and content verification.
