With the goal of creating a fully integrated ad tech portfolio of products and services, RTL Group announced it's acquiring Yospace for up for $33 million USD (€29 million).

RTL Group is the parent company behind SpotX, a global ad platform that offers OTT, outstream, and addressable solutions. By acquiring Yospace it gains the company's server-side dynamic ad insertion (SSDAI) technology, which can substitute the broadcast ads found in a content stream with more relevant, personalized ads. Current Yospace clients include BT Sport, TV4, ITV, and Seven West Media.

"The acquisition of Yospace is an important step in building out our Total Video portfolio and will help drive two strategic goals at the same time," says Bert Habets, chief executive officer of RTL Group. "First, we gain a competitive, fully integrated and profitable solution which is key to further grow our ad-tech business. Our goal is to continue expanding SpotX into a leading, independent monetisation platform for broadcasters, video on demand services, and publishers. Secondly, this acquisition will also help build local streaming champions in the markets where we have strong families of channels. The Yospace technology makes advertising on streaming services more personal, which means a better consumer experience for superior monetisation of our premium advertising inventory.”

With the acquisition, RTL Group will name three members to Yospace's five-person board. Tim Sewell will stay on as CEO of Yospace.
