Viblast Player solves HLS & DASH playback in HTML5 plugin-free

Newly Released Viblast Player Enables In-Browser Playback of Adaptive Bitrate Formats Using Just HTML5 Video Tag

Sofia, Bulgaria(05 May 2015)

HTML5 & WebRTC innovator Viblast launched today Viblast Player, a plugin-free solution that enables playback of adaptive HLS and MPEG-DASH playlists in HTML5 browsers. Viblast Player is one of very few solutions able to play adaptive bitrate (ABR) streams without Flash or any other plugin in HTML5. Besides ABR playback of live and on-demand content, it handles encrypted HLS and DRM-protected DASH streams.

Viblast Player enables content owners and operators of all backgrounds, from online streaming services to the enterprise and houses of worship to migrate to HTML5 and deliver optimal streaming performance using just the video tag and a little Viblast JS magic.

Viblast is known for Viblast PDN (peer-assisted delivery network), which optimizes live and on-demand video streaming, unlocking instant scalability, improved QoE and bandwidth savings. The idea for a standalone player was born at IBC 2014 when a number of business inquiries focused on the technology’s capability to play a single input stream (such as HLS) on multiple browsers and platforms. Viblast Player is easily integrated with Viblast PDN but is now also offered as an independent solution.

“The way we built Viblast Player is off the beaten track, a solution that took a lot of expertise to develop, and one that works impressively well natively in HTML5” said Viblast CEO & co-founder Stefan Dimov. “Our team is very excited to be releasing yet another product that is a bold and innovative solution to real online video challenges.”

The result of over four years of work on over-the-top (OTT) video, Viblast Player is built to enable playback of modern video formats in modern browsers. In 2010, Viblast started developing an efficient, future-proof method of video delivery, which over time turned into Viblast PDN. In the process, the engineering team had to overcome a number of challenges, many of which related to playback. These challenges amounted, and so did the number of technical problems solved, ultimately leading to the creation of Viblast Player.
