UTV launches new Player product

UTV, Northern Ireland’s leading television channel, have launched a new state of the art on-demand Player, with VOD specialist Ostmodern.

London, UK(21 May 2014)

Briefed to re-invent UTV’s Player product in terms of interface design, user experience and device compatibility, Ostmodern have created a new market-leading product that puts user satisfaction and engagement at the heart of the service without compromising UTV’s free, ad-funded proposition. With a clean, contemporary and robust design, Ostmodern’s responsive Player fully supports desktop and laptop, tablet and mobile viewing, across Mac & PC, iOS and Android platforms.

Recommending a strategic approach to ensure UTV Player would reach the widest audience in an affordable and sustainable model, the team developed a frontend framework that is shared across desktop, Android and iOS hybrid applications. Integrating with Brightcove’s new native player SDK, Ostmodern have built a product that enables the playback of rights protected content across all common platforms.

Says UX Director Tom Williams ‘We worked closely with UTV’s in house team while they integrated our work into their new product infrastructure and feel that this collaborative relationship was key the success of the final product’.

With such a strong and successful product delivery, Ostmodern is continuing to work with UTV’s team in preparation for its new television service, UTV Ireland, which will launch in the Republic of Ireland in 2015.

Says Director of Online Channels Morgane Campioni, ‘It has been a pleasure to work with Ostmodern.  We look forward to the realisation of the next phase of the project with absolute confidence’.
