OTT technologies like HLS were developed mainly for mobile devices like Tablets, without having a complete TV experience in mind. Basic features like Teletext or advanced functions like HbbTV are not yet supported with traditional OTT implementations. ABOX42's OTT DVB solution technically combines for the first time features required for television using OTT protocols and market proven standard head end systems.
Key features of the ABOX42 OTT DVB solution are:
Adaptive BitRate Streaming via HLS to achieve the same high quality of service like multicast IPTV.
Multiple Audio Tracks with separate payload to reduce bandwidth.
Fast channel switching. HD channels can be switched in less than a second, giving the end user a similar or better experience than DVB-S/C.
Teletext and Teletext subtitle support. Providingthe user with what he is used from traditional TV and while fulfilling the legal requirements for operators in many countries to support Teletext and subtitles.
Cardless CAS and DRM are supported to protect Pay TV content. ABOX42 supports Microsoft, Verimatrix and Marlin DRM for “Hollywood-grade” security.
HbbTV / RedButton support. As a further innovation, OTT DVB allows to use HbbTV and Red Button application like known from high end DVB solutions.
Local and network time shift and PVR support.
Fast browser based HTML5 user interface is available to give the operator the freedom in the GUI and the user experience.

For operators with their own network, OTT DVB provides an alternative to traditional IPTV.
