Quickplay Transforms Next Generation Video Platform with Mobile Edge Cache for Multicast

New capabilities will enable content workflow from ingest and packaging through to publishing over LTE Networks for the monetization of LTE Broadcast

Barcelona, Spain(18 Feb 2016)

Quickplay, the global expert in powering premium video to any device, today announced the launch of its mobile content delivery network (CDN), an embedded middleware platform that manages the end to end delivery of content over LTE-Broadcast (LTE-B). The solution provides operators with new commercial opportunities to launch differentiated Next Generation TV services across a range of new use cases, while dramatically improving the economics and scale of deployments.

With the full integration and launch of mobile CDN, Quickplay’s Next Generation Video Platform is uniquely designed for operators and content programmers to begin commercializing innovative services in LTE-B, including push video-on-demand (VOD), live televised events, the delivery of broadcast media streams and digital signage. The embedded middleware platform integrates with existing CDNs and leverages Quickplay’s software defined headend to ingest, package and publish content, making it possible for on demand content to be distributed over any LTE network through the caching of pre-positioned content on LTE enabled devices.  Quickplay’s API Gateway, Virtual Set Top Box, provides support for powerful modules and features that unify broadcast and unicast video headend capabilities for linear and video-on-demand distribution.

To date, several trials have already been successfully executed with providers and partners including Qualcomm and Vodafone Spain, with upcoming trials planned for this Spring in North America, Japan and Romania.  Commercial use cases including push VOD, live events (televised), over the top (OTT) video, and in-venue services are deploying in the near term.

“We believe that we are on the cusp of an explosion in the growth of applications and services related to premium mobile video and connected devices,” said Wayne Purboo, CEO and co-founder of Quickplay. “Momentum in the LTE-B space has been building over the past year with trials proving-out technology, an expanding array of consumer and IoT devices, interoperability and business models. We are very bullish on the future of LTE-B and are poised to help providers around the world monetize mobile video and large file distribution.”

Quickplay is a market leader in the emerging world of mobile IPTV utilizing LTE-B, having acquired broadcast middleware pioneer Roundbox in February 2015. Since then, multiple enhancements have been made to Quickplay’s award winning Next Generation Video Platform to enable LTE-B use cases. With an ever-growing list of hundreds of LTE networks deployed globally, ABI Research forecasts LTE-B service revenues to grow to US$7.3 billion by 2020.

Quickplay will be exhibiting at MWC 2016 from 22nd-25th February 2016 in Hall 8, Stand 8.1 G47, where representatives will demonstrate the latest platform enhancements enabling Next Generation TV, including Quickplay’s market leading solutions for Mobile IPTV utilizing LTE-B / Multicast (eMBMS).
