Pedal East broadcasts live with the Quicklink Merlin Backpack

London(10 Jan 2013)

From the 21st December to the 23rd December 2012 Quicklink provided a full end to end solution using the Merlin Backpack Encoder in aid of raising 1 Million Pounds for Comic Relief.

Used in rural ,urban and city areas across the UK , the Merlin Backpack Encoder incorporates Continuous Video Technology (CVT) which delivered 12 continuous hours of footage every day for 3 days of the event delivering perfect picture quality on the cellular 3G network.

Daniel Hughes, a commercial airline pilot who pioneered and cycled the 464 mile event said "It worked brilliantly, the data rates we were getting through were incredible. Every time I turned the Merlin on the picture was flawless."

From the back of one of the team cars ,  the whole event was filmed with a camcorder, connected to the Quicklink Merlin Backpack and the footage sent live via Quicklink's hosted QMM cloud manager onto the Pedal East website.

The simplicity of using the Merlin Backpack was a big highlight for Daniel. "The best thing for me about the Merlin is that it's so portable you can bring other people into your world . It's completely mobile and for me it's incredibly easy to use as well, it was literally 2 buttons click and we were transmitting and then you can leave it."

The cycling team were able to take advantage of Quicklink's high gain external antennas in order to maximise the 3G signal even in remote areas of the countryside.

The event was viewed live by thousands of viewers online and was sponsored by key players such as Nike , ColdPlay, HTC and 3 . The BBC covered the 3 day event with regular interviews of the Team GB and Olympians who joined the peleton .
