Major Broadcaster Speeds Up Delivery of Flagship Content With Bitmovin

LONDON(26 Feb 2019)

Bitmovin, a world leader in online video technology, announces that the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) is using the Bitmovin Encoder to speed content preparation and maximise quality for selected live and UHD content on Catch Up TV and Video on Demand (VOD) services.

The Bitmovin solution enables the broadcaster to make live shows from the BBC’s TV channels available rapidly on satellite provider set-top boxes (STBs), so flagship programmes can be seen soon after the time of broadcast.

The Bitmovin Encoder solution uses proven massively parallel processing for fast encoding. The content can therefore be available in the required format shortly after the live broadcast or episodic TV series release from post production, and delivered to consumers using a public cloud-based platform.

The solution is also being used in ultra-high definition (UHD) and High Dynamic Range (HDR) trials. This includes Dynasties on the broadcaster’s on-demand service, which was available via hundreds of Smart TVs and cable provider set-top boxes.

“Every asset the BBC produces needs to be delivered at the best possible quality, including for catch-up and new release VoD services. We are proud our encoding solution enables their viewers to access their favorite programs in a timely manner, leveraging our cloud-native, massively distributed encoding technology which achieves greater encoding speeds without compromising video quality” said Stefan Lederer, CEO at Bitmovin.
