The Netherlands(02 Oct 2013)

During CDN World Summit in London, Jet-Stream CEO Stef van der Ziel announced to release the company’s CDN technology code to the industry. The mission of Jet-Stream is to raise the bar in the streaming media, broadcasting and telecom industries. By releasing the code, van der Ziel aims to stimulate the CDN ecosystem in general to continue to improve and grow and find profitability. Jet-Stream is the very first to release code to the market, and by doing so is changing the rules of the CDN industry’s game.

This year, market leader in Content Delivery Network technologies Jet-Stream celebrates its 10 year anniversary. And, according to van der Ziel, if it’s your birthday you should celebrate and exchange gifts. During his presentation at the CDN World Summit in London, van der Ziel revealed his present to the industry and made the announcement to release the Jet-Stream code.

Jet-Stream strongly believes that the sector should continuously innovate and share knowledge. Releasing the code is the next step in stimulating the industry to get to a higher level.

Stef van der Ziel: “vendors, operators and system integrators are struggling to develop, design and deploy CDNs. Vendors are having trouble to develop competitive CDN solutions. System integrators want more control over technologies and telecom operators want to own technologies but face massive investments at huge risks. By offering our innovations to the entire industry, we hope to raise the bar together. It is quite a disruptive step, but I believe it is necessary”.

The news about releasing the code was not Jet-Streams only novelty. The company announced a new major upgrade of its technologies including native support for 3rd party CDN load balancing and offloading, coined “Open Play”.

Van der Ziel: “regular CDN load balancing solutions are a thin layer, requiring content providers to negotiate and integrate with many parties, which is expensive and time consuming. Our solution removes those headaches and offers our full rich feature stack as well”.

Van der Ziel: “Starting a CDN is a matter of deploying our software on a cloud and then using third party CDNs as the delivery infrastructure. No more CAPEX or OPEX. Delivery is commoditized, the differentiation is in the control plane”.

The company also announced big plans for its own StreamZilla Content Delivery Network for Q4 2013.
