Epsilon Telecommunications and BTI Systems Go for the Gold

Epsilon Selects BTI Systems for Major London Metro Network Enhancement Program; Expansion Timed with Unprecedented Bandwidth Demands Anticipated for the 2012 Summer Olympics

Boston, MA(10 May 2012)

BTI Systems, the global leader redefining service delivery for metro network operators, today announced that Epsilon Telecommunications has significantly expanded its deployment of BTI’s Integrated Services Delivery Platform to dynamically scale its London metro network to rapidly deliver new IP, Ethernet and wavelength services for service provider customers, increase capacity and improve operational efficiencies.

A “Global Network Exchange,” Epsilon provides a managed presence globally for carriers and service providers. Featuring a converged core optical and packet mesh network that extends to more than 60 carrier-neutral data centers across Europe, Asia and America, the company offers global interconnect services, physical co-location facilities in strategically significant locations, and system integration and engineering support services. Epsilon serves more than 350 carriers and service providers, and has access to more than 1,000 operators worldwide.

“As a global provider, we are driven by service excellence and lean operational objectives. Partnering with BTI helps us achieve our dual mission by simplifying network operations and management, while intelligently increasing capacity as we continue to introduce new, high-value services,” said George Szlosarek, CTO of Epsilon. “Leveraging BTI’s innovative, feature-rich portfolio, we can rapidly and cost effectively provision services in days, not weeks, and establish a solid foundation for a seamless migration to 100G and beyond.”

Concurrent with the significant bandwidth demands expected during the 2012 Summer Olympics, Epsilon has embarked on a long-term, multiphased network expansion and enhancement program to help its service provider customers better deliver video, mobility and other services. Underscoring the anticipated, unprecedented viewer demand for content during the Olympics, the BBC “plans to provide live coverage from up to 24 locations to sit alongside its three main channels of edited content.” Notably, the world’s largest broadcaster “said it would be prepared for a potential maximum of one terabit of traffic per second at certain times – the equivalent of 1,500 people downloading a feature-length DVD every minute.”

Building on an existing, highly successful global network and recent deployment of BTI ROADM solutions in Epsilon’s Singapore metro, BTI was selected to help Epsilon scale its Ethernet core network in London, and expand its London metro ROADM network. Currently, BTI’s Metro Packet Optical Networking and Data Center and Cloud Connectivity solutions provide the foundation of Epsilon’s global network. The BTI™ 7000 Series – with integrated packetVX™ 24/4 (PVX 24/4), BTI 700 Series service access platforms and the BTI proNX Service Management suite – was originally chosen because of its flexibility, reliability and small form factor, which integrated well with Epsilon’s metro networks.

To enhance its London Ethernet core network, Epsilon has implemented additional BTI PVX 24/4 modules to double network capacity and allow for 20G stacking across four London sites. Epsilon will also deploy BTI’s packetVX 80 (PVX 80), a high-capacity 10 Gigabit Ethernet switching module for the BTI 7000 Series. Integrating seamlessly into its existing packet layer, the PVX 80 will empower Epsilon to achieve even greater capacity and scalability, enable delivery of new services, and further simplify network provisioning and operations.

“BTI’s rich heritage in developing and delivering dynamically scalable packet-optical networking solutions is the cornerstone of a long-standing collaborative partnership with Epsilon,” said Jim Crum, Vice President of Sales, Europe, Middle East and Africa. “We look forward to continuing to provide the right solutions at the right time, and helping Epsilon create a dynamic network infrastructure to deploy services faster to customers.”

For its London metro ROADM expansion, Epsilon will upgrade its existing optical network to BTI’s Dynamic Optical Layer including 4D ROADMs. Building upon the current architecture, the seven-site deployment will provide Epsilon with more than double the network capacity, and enable the Company to rapidly and efficiently deliver 10G wavelength services. Accelerating service delivery and assurance across its network, the proNX Service Manager enables Epsilon to achieve its operational, management and SLA goals with its simple end-to-end service provisioning and monitoring capabilities.

BTI recently introduced significant enhancements to its Integrated Services Delivery Platform. Designed for the cost-effective, operationally efficient scaling of metro networks, the BTI 7000 Series with integrated PVX 80 and 4D ROADM will enable Data Center and Cloud, Ethernet Business and Mobile Backhaul service providers to achieve eight times the (10G) capacity in a compact, density-rich footprint. Complementing the flagship packet optical networking platform, the BTI Service Access 810 creates an affordable and seamless migration path to high-performance 4G wireless backhaul services.
