Belgacom Successfully Expands Multiscreen and IPTV Service Offerings with Edgeware’s Distributed Video Delivery Solution

Edgeware’s solution delivers superior scalability for live and advanced nPVR services to all screens

AMSTERDAM(14 Sep 2013)

Edgeware, the technology leader in distributed video delivery, today announces that Belgium’s largest telecommunications operator, Belgacom, has selected Edgeware’s Distributed Video Delivery Network (D-VDN) solution to deliver its “TV Partout/TV Overal” multiscreen service. Edgeware’s solution plays a key role in delivering scalability for both live TV and advanced network services.

The explosive growth of video traffic caused by the increasing popularity of over-the-top (OTT) video, multiscreen services and connected TVs have created inherent challenges for service providers, specifically in quality of experience (QoE) and scalability. Edgeware’s D-VDN is a highly optimized IP video delivery solution that directly addresses this issue. Deployed last summer alongside its existing nPVR system based on Edgeware’s IPTV technology, Belgacom has already seen extensive results. Belgacom TV now boasts a subscriber base of 1.4 million, and the TV Partout app has a growing success amongst IPTV customers.

Edgeware’s solution gives Belgacom’s subscribers access to 55 channels at home or on the go, supporting a range of devices including connected TVs, PCs/Macs, iOS and Android devices. In addition, customers can use the TV Partout app to access the full Belgacom TV Electronic Program Guide (EPG) and schedule recordings on their nPVR service.

“Scalability was the key reason we selected Edgeware´s multiscreen solution,” said a spokesperson for Belgacom. “Edgeware allowed us to rapidly scale, adding streaming licenses and successfully delivering live events with an uptake of 5-6 times the normal peak. In addition, the way the engineering team quickly solved technical issues for live services has further strengthened our confidence in Edgeware.”

“We are pleased to enable Belgacom to continuously invest in new and innovative services based on our video distribution infrastructure for both IPTV and multiscreen,” said Joachim Roos, CEO of Edgeware. “Edgeware's architecture allows operators such as Belgacom the flexibility to quickly scale and increase breadth of service with the highest quality of experience."

IBC show attendees can see Edgeware’s latest D-VDN solutions for network operators, in addition to a new solution to address the needs of broadcasters and over-the-top (OTT) providers for scalable multiscreen services at Hall 14, stand C10.
