Amazon-owned subscription video-on-demand service LoveFilm announced that it's improving its mobile apps, and the first beneficiary is the PlayStation 3. PS3 owners in the U.K. and Germany can download the improved app starting today. LoveFilm says the improved app will eventually rollout to all platforms, but didn't give a timeline.

The new LoveFilm app uses an improved search and recommendation engine, making it easier for viewers to find content they want. Also, the user interface has been overhauled.

New features include a watchlist. Customers can add content to their private watchlist, then access the list later from any device. The app also keeps track of what content viewers are watching, remembering their place so they can pick up where they left off later using any connected device.

PlayStation-using customers in the U.K. and Germany also gain the ability to stream movies and TV shows in high-definition for the first time.

LoveFilm Instant pricing starts at £4.99 per month, and works on Windows and Macintosh computers; Nintendo Wii and Wi U, Microsoft Xbox 360, and Sony PlayStation 3 game consoles; Apple iPad, Kindle Fire, and Kindle Fire HD tablets; and many connected TVs and Blu-ray Players. In July 2012, LoveFilm signed a deal with Miramax that brings content from that studio to U.K. and German subscribers.
