Just in time for the upcoming NAB conference in Las Vegas, Nevada, Interxion, the Amsterdam-based colocation data centre services provider, has released two white papers on the evolution of online television offerings.

Both papers are based on research conducted with U.S. and European executives in different parts of the video delivery chain. Interxion worked with market research firm FirstPartner to interview leaders in the area.

The first paper, "The Role of Cloud in Content Production and Delivery," aims to help publishers determine the right balance between public cloud, private cloud, and dedicated infrastructure.

"Optimising the cost balance between dedicated media production and delivery infrastructure, private cloud and public cloud involves balancing capital and operational cost, hardware efficiency, and cloud service provider pricing," the report notes.

The second paper, "The Challenges of IPTV and Video Delivery," offers strategies for dealing with changes media companies are now experiencing in both production and delivery. The paper focuses on the need to select a strong data centre partner.

"Colocating with key partners can also enhance the security of your content; and mitigate license compliance issues as there is no need to physically move premium or unencrypted content from one data centre to another as it progresses through the workflow," the report says.

Interxion's director of marketing and business development for digital media, Bryan Hill, has written a blog post about the research. Both white papers are available for free download from the blog page (registration required).
