New Zealand's Sky Television, the country's largest pay TV service, is now offering online movie and TV show viewing to subscribers, and Seattle-based video publishing company thePlatform is providing the back-end video management.

Available online content is based on each subscriber's existing subscription package. The online service provides "catch-up" TV episodes and movies. Besides offering free content for subscribers, the portal also includes a library of thousands of shows and movies available for rent.

Sky Television is using thePlatform's MPX video management system to power its efforts. thePlatform's TV Everywhere solution authenticates subscribers and authorizes video playback based on their subscription package.

"Our primary focus for the iSky service is to provide a seamless entertainment experience for our subscribers," says John Fellet, CEO for Sky Television. "thePlatform's proven expertise in supporting large ‘TV Everywhere' deployments in North America made them the right choice to deliver the scale required to support our back-end video management. The MPX publishing system is easy to use and allows us the flexibility and reliability to ensure that each of our customers logging into iSky are able to watch the shows and movies of their particular Sky subscription package."
