In a first, digital video company Vitec has announced the HDM850+, a professional decoder card that supports HEVC/H.265. The company notes that this PCIe decoder is targeted to end-users or integrators, and that it decodes and displays up to 1080p60 video over 3G-SDI or HDMI connections. Codec support includes HEVC up to MP@4.1, H.264 up to Hi10P@L4.2, and MPEG-2 up to HP@HL. It's compatible with MXF OP1a and OP-Atom, MOV, MP4, and MPEG-2 PS and TS.

The upshot, says Vitec, is that users can now display HEVC clips or streams over SDI or HDMI with a professional decoder card.

The card is meant for professional broadcast environments with needs such as content distribution, station automation, and quality control. Features include seamless frame accurate playback, a hardware scaler from any resolution to any resolution, and PCIe (four lanes) multiboard support.

“We are committed to deliver the most innovative products to our customers,” says Philippe Wetzel, CEO of Vitec. “We are thrilled to announce the release of our first HEVC/H.265 product with the introduction of HDM850+ decoder.”

Look for the HDM850+ to ship in September of this year. Pre-orders are entitled to HDM850+ and HDM850 firmware upgrades. Those wanting a closer look will find the HDM850+ at IBC in booth 7.J31.
