Mobile World Congress 2013 began today in Barcelona, Spain, and multi-screen delivery company SPB TV is using the show to debut a variety of upgrades to its video-streaming solutions. Chief among them is SPB TV Media Platform 5.0, which promises improved reliability.

With Media Platform 5.0, publishers can create a CDN for delivery of both live and on-demand content to desktop computers, mobile devices, and connected televisions. The platform uses Forward Error Correction (FEC) technology to prevent package loss.

Media Platform 5.0 also includes a new content management system (CMS), a new business intelligence and reporting engine, and an improved advertising platform.

SPB TV is focusing on mobile devices at MWC, showing off new user interfaces for iOS, Android, and Symbian phones and tablets. It's also releasing a new Metro-style app for Windows 8 users.

Second-screen viewing is sure to be a major theme of the conference, and SPB TV is riding that wave with improved second-screen features for at-home use. Viewers can now call up additional contextual information, such as cast and crew trivia, biographies and statistics for athletes, recipes for cooking shows, and even alternative endings to movies.

SPB TV is based in Switzerland, with offices in the United States, Russia, and Brazil.
