The organisers of Northern Waves TV, an Oslo-based TV streaming conference, have today announced the dates for the Nordic TV Week. The week-long online event scheduled between 26-30 October, will feature live presentations of popular Nordic TV streaming services from a technology and UI/UX design perspective.

According to Mediavision, as of 2019, there were approximately 10 million streaming subscriptions in the Nordics, over 5.8 million households. Nordic SVOD households subscribe to 1.7 services on average. This number can be explained by innovative business models in the form of service packaging, such as telecom operators bundling streaming services with traditional TV or broadband.

The Nordic region has long been a breeding ground for video technology, with companies such as Tandberg in Norway and Ericsson in Sweden leaving a legacy of skills. It is also known for its buying power, high device penetration and strong broadband connection, which means consumers expect superior streaming experiences.

Ajey Anand, Founder of Northern Waves TV says: "The Nordics are renowned for our design and tech expertise, which is demonstrated through the success of OTT services such as Viaplay, HBO Nordic, TV 4 Play, TV 2 Sumo. Public broadcasters such as NRK, SVT, DR and YLE are also known for their brilliant innovation in this area. I hope these streaming showcases will help build a stronger TV community around the world."
