The Main Event

And then, of course, there's the main event, Streaming Media Europe "proper." With 2 full days and 20 sessions, there's nowhere near enough space here to highlight every session. But a few deserve special attention.

We've got two exceptional keynotes this year, beginning on 14 October with Anthony Rose, CTO of Project Canvas, the proposed joint venture between the BBC, ITV, BT, Channel 4, Talk Talk, and Arqiva to bring live and on-demand video, along with web-based services and interactive extras, to the living room in 2011. In Project Canvas: The Future Evolution of Television, Rose will explain how Canvas is creating the right environment for connected TV to thrive in the U.K. and beyond.

On 15 October, we hear from Brian Levy, CTO of Red Bee Media, the creative agency and media management firm that's worked with clients from the BBC, ITV, and Virgin Media to Nike, Lonely Planet, and Motorola. Levy's keynote, called "Video Everywhere and in Everything," will re-examine the very definitions of media-what is a TV programme? a magazine? a newspaper?-and the new value chains that are created by changes to the content ecosystem. He'll focus on the need to create an outstanding user experience built around customer interaction and involvement.

Over the rest of Streaming Media Europe's 2 days, we'll have sessions on HTML5, online video platforms, video SEO, analytics, social media, and the particular demands of the European CDN market, among many others. Among our more than 60 speakers are representatives from the DTV Group, Cisco, IBM, Cuatro (Spain), LongTail Video, the BBC, Channel Five, TV 2 Sumo (Norway), Thomson Reuters, Forrester Research, and Deutsche Telekom.

See You in London

So there you have it-3 days chock-full of workshops, keynotes, panels and fun, all designed to make sure you return to your office with solid advice on how to improve your online video efforts. And don't forget, we'll be presenting the second annual European Readers' Choice Award winners on the exhibit hall floor at the end of Day 1, 14 October.
