Vidiator Takes The PayTV Experience Mobile

First platform to truly mobilise the in-home viewing experience
Amsterdam - IBC 2009(9/11/2009) -

A revolutionary new experience for mobile TV viewing - the Xenon Time Shifter - will be unveiled at IBC2009 by Vidiator, the world's leading provider of mobile streaming and encoding solutions.

The Xenon Time Shifter is the world's first mobile solution that enables live pause, time-shifting and place-shifting, extending the in-home TV experience to the mobile phone.  Viewers can now not only watch live TV on their mobiles, but also pause the stream when required, for example to take a call, play a game or take a photo. Users can simply then resume the session on their mobile or pick it up and watch on the PC.

Connie Wong, CEO of Vidiator commented:  "With Xenon Time Shifter, the mobile TV business model finally becomes viable for service operators as the technology fits real-world usage where mobile phones are recognised as more than just TV players."

Underneath the Xenon Time Shifter is Vidiator's patented bookmarks and playlist technology.  All ‘recording' takes place in the network, so the service is not dependent on devices having the right level of storage or archiving capabilities, and so can be viewed on any 3G handset.

Connie added:  "Xenon Time Shifter is a turn-key solution for broadcasters and content owners who are looking to directly translate their sticky Live, VOD and catch up services to the mobile screen - it gives them the ability to deliver live, catch-up and VOD as a single, compelling service to every 3G capable mobile phone available today, as well as over the web."

"Since the launch of the Sky+ service nearly 10 years ago, PVR functionality in the home is now mainstream.  Viewers are used to being able to control their TV viewing by pausing and rewinding live TV and watching the programmes they want when they want. Similarly, the introduction of the BBC iPlayer two years ago put catch-up TV into the network and is proving a compelling and desirable user experience.  Xenon Time Shifter now makes it possible to combine the experience of the Sky+ and BBC iPlayer into a single service, where users are in full control of their viewing."

Vidiator will be demonstrating the Xenon Time Shifter at their stand M122 in the mobile zone at IBC.
