Private Equity Fund Capidea Becomes Xstream Majority Investor
In a surprise move, Danish end-to-end video management software company Xstream has announced that it has a new owner. The Danish private equity fund Capidea has taken a majority stake in the company -- said by Xstream marketing to be just over 50 percent -- for an undisclosed amount.
Xstream sees this as a win, announcing that it now has the "muscles" to grow its video management system, Xstream MediaMaker, in new markets around the world. Those markets include Asia Pacific and South America, says Xstream marketing, adding that the company will launch in Asia Pacific in a few weeks.
The challenge ahead for Xstream is competing against large players in the field, especially those from the United State, says Frank Thorup, Xstream's CEO and co-owner. With new ownership, he says the company is stronger and prepared to win international customers.
Along with the majority investment news, Xstream is announcing that Lars Torpe Christoffersen, a former director at Danish telecommunications company TDC, has made an investment in the company and will now become Xstream's chairman of the board.
Xstream introduced the latest version of MediaMaker, version 7, at IBC in September, 2013. Improvements to this version aim to help customers deply OTT and TV Everywhere solutions faster.
