Wowza Media Server 2 Picked by Top Eastern European CDN NGENIX to Expand Customers' Reach

CDN Rolls Out Streaming Service for iPhone, iPad, Android, and Other Mobile Devices

Evergreen, CO(21 Oct 2010)

Wowza Media Systems, the media server company, today announced that NGENIX, one of the top content delivery networks in Eastern Europe, has upgraded to Wowza Media Server 2 software. NGENIX, a Wowza customer for more than a year, has now also achieved Wowza Streaming Partner status. The Wowza Streaming Partner status is awarded to select service providers who have achieved the required level of deployment, demonstrated expertise in operating Wowza server-based services, and proven a high level of customer satisfaction.

With award-winning Wowza Media Server 2, NGENIX now has the ability to stream high volumes of content reliably beyond Flash to an even greater number of screens, including Apple iPhone/iPad and Android devices.

"Wowza Media Server is an integral part of our cross-platform video delivery and broadcasting service," said Konstantin Anokhin, NGENIX chief marketing officer. "Relying on Wowza, we have achieved excellent service stability in a high-load environment. In addition, Wowza Media Server 2 allows us to cost-effectively distribute video to the widest possible range of user devices."

Among NGENIX customers reaping the benefits of the Wowza-powered multi-protocol streaming is Sportbox.ru, the most popular sports website in the region with more than three million visitors a month. Part of Russian state television and radio, Sportbox.ru streams live events, replays, photos, and news. Sportbox.ru used NGENIX CDN Web acceleration and Wowza-based video streaming services to broadcast both the Olympic Winter Games and the 2010 World Cup.

NGENIX content delivery services target the massive Internet audience in Russia and Ukraine on behalf of media publishers, Web portals, software distributors, and online shops. The company's CDN nodes are located in Moscow, Kiev, Saint-Petersburg, Kazan, Samara, Rostov-on-Don, Krasnodar, Yekaterinburg, Novosibirsk, and Vladivostok, and offer direct connections to more than 350 telecom operators. With a uniquely pervasive presence in Russia and Ukraine, NGENIX is able to support both regional and global content providers.

"With Wowza Media Server 2, NGENIX customers gain unmatched freedom for live and on-demand streaming," said Dave Stubenvoll, CEO and co-founder of Wowza Media Systems. "Our partnership with NGENIX demonstrates our mutual commitment to using innovation that gives customers a high-quality streaming experience, no matter what player or device platform they use. We are pleased to boost our presence in Eastern Europe by adding NGENIX to our global partnership base."

Winner of two top awards in the just-announced Streaming Media European Readers' Choice competition, Wowza Media Server 2 is a high-performance video engine that unifies delivery of live and on-demand H.264 video or AAC/MP3 audio streams to multiple clients and devices, extending content's reach to any platform and any screen. It offers broad support of media platforms, including Flash, Silverlight, Apple iOS (iPhone/iPad), Android, and Blackberry, as well as IPTV and game consoles. The industry has been quick to recognize and embrace the possibilities afforded by Wowza Media Server, which since its initial release in 2007 has been deployed by more than 50,000 licensees in some 60 countries.
