Red Bee Media has entered into a partnership with ITV to store, enhance and deliver content to platforms including ITV Broadcasting, Amazon, BT Vision, iTunes, ITV.com and Virgin Media. This deal further establishes Red Bee Media as the leading provider of content management services in the UK.
Each week the company will ingest 240 hours of broadcast quality programming and transcode over 1500 hours of ITV content into multiple VoD and catch up TV platform formats for delivery and distribution in the UK and around the world.
For ITV Broadcasting, Red Bee Media will provide critical digital workflows of scheduled programmes and will deliver these to ITV's transmission centres. The deal will also include the management of over 10,000 hours of existing ITV archive content and will make a significant contribution to ITV's focus on continued success across all platforms - television, online and mobile.
Red Bee Media won ITV's media management contract because of the flexibility of its digital workflow platform, which enables ITV to control and manage its media, metadata and workflows through a services oriented architecture (SOA) based interface. This architecture also allows Red Bee Media to prototype new developments in a matter of days, saving ITV time and money and allowing the service delivery to keep pace with the rapidly changing business needs of ITV and its partners. The same platform already supports many of the UK's major broadcasters and content owners including the BBC, VMtv, C4 and C5.
Helen Stevens, Director of Broadcast Resources at ITV says: "Catch up TV is revolutionising the TV experience and it is vital for ITV to be at the forefront of that change. The appointment of Red Bee Media gives us access to sophisticated technology and expertise that is essential for ITV's content to take its place on the various emerging video platforms and to grow its digital media offering. ITV selected Red Bee Media to manage and process its digital assets and support mission critical workflows due to the media company's scale, flexibility and proven track record and we look forward to building on a strong partnership."
Bill Patrizio, Chief Executive, Red Bee Media, adds: "We are delighted to be appointed to ITV's media management business following on from our earlier appointment to manage the media workflow of ITV's iPhone web application. The content partnership with ITV is a significant achievement for Red Bee Media which already, through its state-of-the-art media facility, works for an array of leading broadcasters including BBC, Channel 4, Five, UKTV and VMtv. Our platform and the breadth of our services save broadcasters time and money but most importantly allows them to keep pace with the rapidly changing media world."
