Irdeto Strengthens Piracy Management Portfolio with Global Launch of Irdeto Intelligence Services

New Online Ad Network and Live Event Monitoring services tackle piracy for pay TV operators and broadcasters while uncovering hidden opportunities through big data

Amsterdam(07 Sep 2012)

Irdeto, a world leader in content security, management and delivery, announced the global launch of Irdeto Intelligence to pay TV operators and broadcasters looking to protect their business models while gaining new insights about the consumption of their media. Marking the culmination of Irdeto’s 2011 acquisition of US-based BayTSP, Irdeto Intelligence is now the most comprehensive online piracy monitoring and enforcement service with broad system upgrades and additional coverage of new and emerging piracy channels.

The volume of illegitimate media content circulated through the different piracy channels is growing fast. Using proprietary Irdeto Intelligence technology, Irdeto processed 5.4 billion detections in 2009, a number that jumped to 9.6 billion in 2011. As of IBC 2012, Irdeto has already processed nearly 9 billion detections and expects to process 14-15 billion detections by the end of 2012. Drawing data from all major online piracy channels (peer-to-peer, web video, live streaming sites, cyberlockers, search engines and advertising networks), Irdeto Intelligence continues to build one of the largest databases on unauthorized distribution worldwide. As a service, Irdeto enables customers to better understand, identify and manage digital content piracy.

Commented Irdeto CEO Graham Kill: “Irdeto Intelligence is already in place with the majority of major Hollywood Studios and premiere US-based broadcasters. We believe these piracy management services are highly germane to our pay TV customers, broadcasters and other rights holders in Europe and Asia Pacific, and now is the right time to roll those services out to the global community.”

Irdeto Intelligence adds to its portfolio Online Ad Network Monitoring, which offers rights holders and brand advertisers enforcement against unauthorized pairing of pirated content and online ads, which is a lucrative revenue streams for pirates. The company also announces the international availability of its proven Live Event Monitoring service as well as a newly-designed monitoring and reporting dashboard. This now adds to the company’s existing peer-to-peer, cyberlocker, web video, search engine link removal and download population measurement services.

Added Kill: “In addition to our reporting and detection services, we are working on big data services that offer predictive analysis of media consumption by geography and enhanced visibility into content demand and flow within a pay TV operator’s or broadcaster’s network. These are only two examples of where we believe our data will benefit our customers.”

In demonstration of the data that Irdeto Intelligence collects for customers, Irdeto revealed an infographic breaking down the top countries contributing to the global piracy epidemic (see Digital Piracy Report: Where are Seeders are Putting Down Roots?). Irdeto Intelligence is a natural extension of Irdeto’s Piracy Continuum™, a trademarked framework expressing the variety of “pirate types,” and providing Irdeto customers a better understanding of security, managing threats to digital content, future proofing business models and identifying hidden opportunities.
