Brazil Hosts Its First IPTV World Forum

Latin America’s regulators and operators discuss the issues surrounding IPTV development
America(10/26/2006) -

Brazil, home to a top ten world economy ? and a fast-developing Internet market already approaching 30 million users - will turn its technology attention to the IPTV phenomenon in January, when Rio de Janeiro is the venue for the region?s first ever IPTV World Forum Latin America www.iptv-latinamerica.com , 30th-31st January, 2007 www.iptvworldseries.com.

The IPTV exhibition and conference programme is part of the IPTV World Series pioneered and developed from the UK by the Junction Group whose events in this field are now recognised around the world.

?Following the incredible growth of our IPTV shows in Europe and Asia, it was a natural extension to bring the IPTV World Series to South America. The conference will seek to define the Latin American IPTV marketplace today, the prospects for growth and the potential for IPTV to become a viable delivery platform for broadcast television and VOD.? said Ian Johnson MD of Junction.

The show will have among its speakers stars of the telecommunications industry including Helio Costa, The Minister for Communication in Brasil, Edmundo Poggio, General Manager of Technology Development from Telecom Argentina, Loyd Benson, the President of Pioneer Telephone Cooperative and Werner Schuler, the General Director of TV & Multimedia services from Telefonica.

?With Latin America?s broadband penetration up by a phenomenal 79% in the last year we are seeing signs that the region?s telco?s are starting to think seriously about IPTV,? commented Ian Johnson

?The regulators need to relax the boundaries to make Latin America a viable market for IPTV services. IPTV Forum Latin America will, we hope, encourage high-level discussion and prompt a much needed call to action.?
