5 million online viewers in 2 weeks: Codeshop's Unified Streaming Platform (USP) - Rock solid foundation for streaming Olympics in the Netherlands

During the Olympics 5 million Dutch viewers followed the Olympics online. To make this happen the Dutch Public Broadcast Organisation (NOS) used Unified Streaming Platform of CodeShop.
Amsterdam, The Netherlands(8/20/2012) -

Amsterdam, 20th of August 2012

Codeshop's Unified Streaming Platform (USP) proved to be strong foundation for streaming Olympics in the Netherlands

The numbers are in! The past two weeks more than five million people followed the Olympic games through the special Olympic website of the Dutch national broadcaster NOS. That is about one third of all Dutch.

Looking back after these two hectic weeks Codeshop CEO Dirk Griffioen is very proud and satisfied with the performance of his company's USP based Streaming Solution that NOS implemented for the Olympic Games.

'NOS had various requirements', says Griffioen. 'After the successful implementation of USP for catch-up TV, they decided to use our Unified Streaming Platform (USP) as the streaming software foundation for the Olympic Games'.

Before, Codeshop had a good impression of USP performance after the European Soccer Championship and Tour de France. But the Olympic games proved to be the ultimate testcase, since they generated even more viewers. According to the NOS, the Olympic website hosted three times more visitors than the last version of the Olympic games in Vancouver.

Griffioen: 'USP performed very well and proved to be a stable and scalable streaming platform. During the 2 Olympic weeks over 5 million online viewers visited the NOS Olympic site and at peak moments, the Gold medal of Dutchman Epke Sonderland, more than the 'ever dreamt of' concurrent viewers (>235000) watched the live stream online. This has made the NOS conclude to add more servers for the next big event.'
