Skytide, Edgeware Collaborate on Quality of Experience Analytics

Edgeware and Skytide have created a joint solution for providing QoE (quality of experience) metrics in real-time for large-scale adaptive bitrate usage. Noting that adaptive bitrate video creates challenges in measurement, since it can involve tens of thousands of files for one movie, the two companies have created a system that simplifies reporting complexity. Edgeware video servers create virtual sessions that generate usage data tied to the overall session, not video fragments. Skytide's Insight for CDN technology then turns the data into useful reports in real-time. The joint solution means less traffic and processing, as there's only one report per session. Broadcaster are then able to view feedback faster and make changes as needed. The combined system greatly reduces the cost, complexity, and turnaround times for QoE reporting, the companies say

"This is a perfect combination of state-of-the-art systems for analytics and video delivery," says Jon Haley, vice president of business development at Edgeware. "Together with Skytide, we offer the most scalable operator CDN solution in the industry."

The joint solution has already been tested with several large CDN customers, the companies say.

Skytide and Edgeware will talk about their solution today and tomorrow at the CDN World Summit in London.
