Nordic Media Summit Brings Togethers Scandinavian Online Video Leaders

Next week in Copenhagen, leaders in the Scandinavian media and online video market will convene for the first-ever Nordic Media Summit, organized by Xstream, a Danish streaming media services provider that has worked with many of the region's leading media companies.

"We have felt and heard the desire and needs from customers and prospects, a need to meet- and greet with those who work with online video in the Nordic countries, a need to exchange ideas and best practice, a need to find platforms for cooperation, a need to learn how to succeed and a need to socialize with industry colleagues," says Xstream CEO and owner Frank Thorup.

While conferences like our own Streaming Media Europe, which just wrapped up in London, are growing to serve the pan-European market, it's encouraging to see regional events like this, which address the specifics of a particular geography. While online video offers the ability for truly global content delivery, it's important to understand the unique opportunities and challenges presented in specific regions, and the Nordic Media Summit looks to be  an excellent step in that direction.

"For the first time in Scandinavia, there is a conference exclusively dedicated to online video and to provide media in Scandinavia with the opportunity to meet and exchange experiences about their use of online video, and their vision for online video in the future," Thorup says. "The intention and purpose of the Nordic Media Summit is not only to provide a forum for exchange of experience but just as extensively to be a place where participants can socialize with peers and this across companies and countries.

Xstream has invited representatives from organizations that are leading the way in online video in Scandinavia, including Aftonbladet, Ekstra Bladet, TV2 Norway, Adresseavisen, Dagbladet, and Telenor Norway. Microsoft EMEA Senior Business Development Manager for Media Platforms Business EMEA Massimo Savazzi will also present a keynote about the company's Silverlight and PlayReady technologies, and Mads Kristensen, Manager at MSN Denmark will moderate the day. (In the interest of full disclosure, I should note that I'll be speaking at the event as well, offering a global context.)

"We are also very excited about the huge interested the conference has gained, within the Nordic countries and internationally," says Thorup. "The conference has a unique and fantastic list of speakers, who all will contribute in making the Nordic Media Summit an event to remember. It's Xstream's ambition that NMS will actively contribute to new collaborations across national boundaries between media."
