Nagra Enables a New TV Landscape at CES 2018

Extensive line-up of user experience, data intelligence, content protection and anti-piracy innovations drives new pay-TV and content owner business strategies

Cheseaux, Switzerland(14 Dec 2017)

Continuing on its vision of “connecting people to the content they love,” Nagra, a Kudelski Group (SIX:KUD.S) company and the world's leading independent provider of content protection and multiscreen television solutions, is enabling the TV landscape of tomorrow for consumers, pay-TV operators and content owners alike at CES 2018 in Las Vegas (Jan. 9-10), at San Polo Venetian Meeting Room #3501A

Key highlights include a multi-journey user experience unifying a wide range of device eco-systems including Android TV; actionable data intelligence; and end-to-end content value protection with integrated watermarking and anti-piracy services.

“The disruptive challenges faced by pay-TV service providers worldwide, summarized in the 2017 Pay-TV Innovation Forum report, show increasing pressure to deliver more consumer value while tackling growing piracy issues,” said Ivan Verbesselt, SVP Group Marketing at NAGRA. “This new reality calls for a smart line-up of IP, cloud and data-driven solutions that help service providers retain their leadership position as leading aggregators of premium content catering to the most valuable pay-TV consumer types.”

Nagra’s CES showcase will include:

  • The industry’s first multi-journey user experience with OpenTV Signature Edition

Making its U.S. debut, OpenTV Signature Edition is the industry’s game-changing, pre-integrated, cost-effective and fully-featured TV solution ecosystem for pay-TV service providers, designed to maximize content value, while optimizing the experience – not just for the end-user but also in deployment and operations. Powered by the latest OpenTV technologies, it delivers a unified, intuitive and seamless user experience across all screens through the brand-new OpenTV Ion UI that logically, but also emotionally, engages the consumer. It elegantly blends both traditional and modern paths to linear and on-demand content translating today’s fragmented content landscape into a gratifying user experience.

OpenTV Signature Edition also integrates an Android TV Operator Tier solution offering the best of broadcast and IP services with Nagra content protection and hybrid SmarDTV set-top boxes, allowing providers to easily on-board SVOD services to deliver a unique and new user experience.

  • AI-powered data intelligence with Nagra Insight

Nagra Insight is an intelligent pay-TV data platform that enables operators to drive business growth and make better strategic decisions using data. It leverages artificial intelligence to understand each viewer’s preferences and recommends actions that will increase both customer satisfaction and monetization. Nagra Insight with AI powers the OpenTV Signature Edition user experience and other Kudelski Group offerings.

  • Secure and consumer-friendly Direct-to-TV solutions

Nagra’s direct-to-TV software solutions (NAGRA CONNECT) and devices (TVKey) simplify access to linear and on-demand pay-TV services on TV sets while allowing providers to reach a wider audience for their pay-TV services, lower subscriber acquisition costs and extend their sales channel through win-win CE vendor and retailer partnerships.

SmarDTV’s operator-controlled casting solution vdoCAST securely bridges the gap to OTT content streaming ecosystems, conveniently driven from the same OpenTV Ion UI.

  • End-to-End Content Value Protection for defeating piracy through active security

Combined with NAGRA’s software and hardware CAS and DRM solutions, Nagra Anti-Piracy Services and NexGuard watermarking technology help both service providers and content owners create the ultimate closed-loop approach to secure and mark content, monitor for piracy, and quickly and decisively act against it from a unified Security Services Platform.  A live demonstration will illustrate how service providers can use watermarking and Nagra’s anti-piracy platform to fight IPTV and Kodi add-on streaming piracy.

In addition, Nagra’s parent company, the Kudelski Group, will highlight its new IoT Security Suite that helps secure the business foundations of companies connecting things to the cloud. By leveraging its heritage in both pay-TV and cybersecurity, the Kudelski Group is uniquely positioned to advise companies on the design, implementation and long-term security lifecycle management of their connected business models across a variety of industries. CES IoT security demonstrations include WHITE NOISE for securing mobile communications, as well as a video surveillance solution for deployed legacy systems.
