Caton carries MLB to Taiwan

Major League Baseball enjoys consistent high quality

Singapore(25 Apr 2023)

Caton Technology, a pioneer in next-generation IP network transport solutions, has been contracted to provide circuits to carry Major League Baseball (MLB) games from the group’s broadcast center in New York to three broadcasters in Taiwan. The delivery circuits use the CatonNet Video Platform (CVP), the turnkey, door-to-door transport built on widely available IP transmission.

Caton provided CVP carriage of National Basketball Association (NBA) and Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) in the 2022 season for ELEVEN SPORTS Taiwan, the Cable TV, IPTV and OTT content provider, now part of DAZN. Thanks to the excellent performance in the first year, it has renewed its contract with CVP of NPB for a further five years and this 2023 season MLB ELEVEN SPORTS Taiwan has been joined by traditional broadcaster Chinese Television System (CTS) and streaming service ELTA, who also own rights in Taiwan. Baseball is very popular in Taiwan, and these three rights holders collectively reach more than 75% of the fan base in the country.

Global distribution of video services like high-quality, time-constrained sports coverage has traditionally been very expensive and complicated to implement. CVP provides critical quality delivery over a mix of the open internet and Caton’s own infrastructure, allowing it to guarantee performance from door-to-door, eliminating the often costly links from points of presence to broadcasters. CVP manages the end-to-end delivery, spreading the stream across multiple paths where necessary to provide the required bandwidth and resilience.

“We now have a lot of experience with CVP, and we know it to be very stable, very low latency, and very clean,” said Eric Teng, Managing Director of ELEVEN SPORTS Taiwan. “It gives us few problems, and the team from Caton are very responsive when we need support. We know we can rely on the service to deliver the action to our subscribers.”

Paul Weiser, vice president of worldwide sales & marketing at Caton Technology added “Premium sport is just the sort of high value content we designed CVP around. Everything has to be right – low latency, no glitches, perfect synchronization – or sports fans will notice. We are really proud to be entrusted with MLB for audiences in Taiwan.”
