Virgin Media has entered into a multi-year partnership with video-on-demand service provider FilmFlex to develop new features for Virgin's streaming customers and to acquire new content.

FilmFlex will be responsible for creating, introducing, and even managing new services for VOD customers. The company said that it will soon introduce multi-device playback through the Virgin TV Anywhere service. FilmFlex will also add services to Virgin Media TiVo this year.

FilmFlex will acquire the rights to new content in order to grow Virgin's offerings. Virgin Movies, available for instant viewing on Virgin TV, currently includes over 500 titles, a low number for a VOD service. FilmFlex didn't say how many titles it's planning to add.

Under the agreement, FilmFlex will oversee Virgin movies licensing and management for the Virgin TV service. FilmFlex will oversee platform and website operation, content management, billing, and customer service for the online service.

In a statement, Jeff Henry, chief executive officer for FilmFlex movies, promised that this partnership would bring "brilliant new applications to evolve Virgin Movies" in the near future.

Yesterday, Virgin Media was acquired by Liberty Global for $23.3 billion (£15B). Revenues at Virgin Media increased by 3 percent to £2.8 billion this financial year, with 1.8 percent of that growth coming from new customers and the remainder from an increase in average revenue per user.
