CDN.net Launches, Offers No-Commitment Global Service

Offering no-commitment, no-hassle, pay-per-use service, CDN.net launched yesterday. The company is positioning itself as an alternative to "legacy CDNs" that require contracts. With CDN.net service, it says, customers of any size can lower costs by only paying for the distribution they need.

While the company doesn't require commitments, it wants potential customers to know that its service is just as reliable as the service from bigger names. At launch, it included 30 points-of-presence (PoPs) for global distribution, and plans to increase that to 150 locations in 40 countries. It offers a service level agreement (SLA) with a 99.99 percent uptime guarantee.

CDN.net says that the federated CDN model has finally reached maturity. It bills the service as completely transparent, letting customers pay for only what they use and only when they need it.

“Today’s rich content demands plague online businesses with bounce-back, high latency and downtime that are harmful to their customer retention, marketing, and SEO efforts," says James Fletcher, marketing director for CDN.net. "That’s why CDNs are now essential for all web property owners. However, buying CDN is generally an expensive, frustrating experience where customers pay for resources they don’t end up using, and get a pre-packaged service that doesn’t match their business."
