Thai PBS Grows Substantial Digital Audience Using Social Video

The broadcaster has achieved over 730m views for live streams and real-time video clips across social media in 2018

London(06 Dec 2018)

The Thai Public Broadcasting Service (Thai PBS), has increased its reach across social media exponentially in the past year by capitalizing on the growing digital video demand in Asia. Thai PBS has achieved over 730 million social video views in 2018 to date, an increase of over 100 million from 2017

The broadcaster has partnered with Grabyo, the market-leading cloud-based video production platform and has been able to create and distribute real-time video clips and produce live streams delivered directly to an array of social, mobile and web-based platforms.  It has been able to receive up to eight million views on a single clip.

Consuming video on digital platforms, especially on mobile devices has grown ten-fold in Thailand.  It’s a country that ranks in the world's top 10 for social media usage, with video among 18-29 year olds becoming even more popular with the growth of entertainment and live content the topic most talked about.  Digital video viewers across the country are watching content for longer periods than ever before and the growth Thai PBS has achieved highlights how the broadcaster is creating and delivering video content exactly how and when digital consumers want it.

Kanokporn Prasitphon – Director of New Media Centre, Thai PBS said: “At Thai PBS, we have been very excited by the response to our social video content strategy over the past year. These numbers show just how important it is that we service our digital audience alongside our traditional linear coverage. As many people prefer to get their news and entertainment from mobile devices, we’ve been able to publish news clips directly to social media platforms seconds after we have aired them in order to amplify our stories. We’re excited to keep innovating our strategy to match what news audiences want.”

Elliot Renton, Head of Asia Pacific at Grabyo said: “Grabyo is delighted to be partnering with Thai PBS to deliver such a consumer-centric strategy that is resonating with their audiences both in Thailand and around the world.  Capturing this huge and consistently growing online video audience is paramount to achieving growth in reach, views and monetization and Grabyo is well positioned to further help Thai PBS deliver more innovation in video production and enhance their digital, mobile and social media strategy”
