Streamworks Announced United Nations as Streaming Partner for the United Nations Department of Public Information

New York, NY(9/12/2012) -

Streamworks, the global specialist in live video, has announced today that it has partnered with the United Nations Department of Public Information to stream United Nations Television (UNTV) coverage of the proceedings taking place at the world body’s headquarters in New York.  Content will include live coverage of the Security Council, the General Assembly, press conferences, special events and short-form documentaries produced by the in-house teams at the United Nations.

UNTV content is currently available on the United Nations webcast portal. With Streamworks’ proprietary technology, distribution will be wider with better quality, and platform agnostic to allow contents to be viewed on any internet-enabled devices. This will be operational in time for the United Nations General Assembly.  Dedicated fibre lines are currently being built at the United Nations Secretariat, into Streamworks’ global infrastructure and streaming will be available live 24/7/365.

The United Nations brings together representatives of 193 countries to collectively tackle global challenges, including peace and security, human rights, development and climate change.  As these are issues that are of concern the world over, it is only fitting that as many people as possible have access to these important exchanges and decision making processes. The partnership with Streamworks will help to achieve this and also bring the United Nations closer to the people it serves.

UNTV can be viewed at www.unmultimedia.org/tv/webcast.

Stephane Dujarric, Director, News and Media Division, United Nations Department of Public Information, commented; “This partnership with Streamworks will enable us increase the transparency of what is going on at the United Nations. Transparency is critical to the legitimacy and credibility of the organization. Streamworks will enable to reach new audiences, especially those viewing content on the web and mobile platforms.”

Ray Mia, CEO, Streamworks, added; “Live breaking news is a core focus of our business, and we’re extremely proud to be working with the UN, and partnering with the most influential body in the world, in terms of governmental opinion. We know we can provide the best streaming service to UNTV, growing their audience worldwide.”
