Planet eStream In The Living Schools Lab Project

Planet PC are pleased to announce that their media streaming and archiving solution, Planet eStream, has been selected to help support further advancement of innovation in European schools.

Birkenshaw, UK(19 Mar 2013)

Planet eStream has been selected by the Living Schools Lab project to support their network of innovative schools and teachers to showcase and demonstrate best practice for using ICT in the teaching and learning process.  The lab project team are researching and planning different ways to share these best practices and will use the Planet eStream media streaming and archiving solution for storing and cataloguing LSL school videos. The extended use of the product will involve inserting video chapters in selected videos and embedding these into learning platforms, live streaming from the Future Classroom Lab and involving remote audiences in training events, broadcasting messages to digital signage displays in the network schools and streaming live from the schools to animate their regional ‘hubs’.

“The Planet eStream team are very excited that our product has been selected for this high profile European project. We have been involved with European Schoolnet since 2011 as an industry partner in their innovative ‘Future Classroom Lab Project’ and this initiative seeks to build on the applications of innovative technologies in the classroom. We look forward to supporting our colleagues at European Schoolnet in this two year project and to receiving feedback from the ‘Advanced Schools’ on their use of Planet eStream.”  Andrew Milburn Sales Director – Media Streaming Technologies, Planet PC

The Living Schools Lab is a two year project being coordinated by European Schoolnet and involves twelve Ministries of Education in Europe.  The project brings together highly innovative schools (“Advanced Schools”) that have already successfully embraced technology in their teaching and learning across the whole school.  They will work as the core to build a series of regional hubs and the rest of the network.  Planet eStream technology was demonstrated and presented to the Advanced Schools during a workshop held in Brussels in January.

Planet eStream is a media streaming and archiving system which provides a complete solution for content management and distribution. It enables users to digitise or upload multimedia rich content into one system and distribute that content to end users in multiple ways. Content is typically delivered via mobile devices, desktop computers and digital signage screens and also fully integrates with leading VLEs. In addition, Planet eStream offers lesson observation capability and lecture capture. This fully featured solution supports learning delivery by creating a 24/7 on demand repository for personalised learning and supports contemporary teaching practises such as ‘flipping the classroom’.
