Open-source DASH Applications Released by castLabs

Open-source tools for creating and playing DASH content are now available.
Berlin(4/16/2014) -

castLabs, a digital video technology and services company, has recently released two open-source applications to support the growing DASH community: dash.encrypt and dash.as.  Both applications are hosted as GitHub projects for users to download and also participate in their improvement.

dash.encrypt is a Java based video segmenting and encryption tool for creating DASH content. It takes encoded video and audio from an array of different formats and repackages them as DASH streams along with generating the required manifest. Optionally, the tool can also encrypt content according to the Common Encryption specification (ISO/IEC 23001-7) for use with digital rights management systems.  castLabs has also released dash.as, an ActionScript based DASH player for Adobe Flash. The application is an extension for the Open Source Media Framework.

“We are happy to contribute to the success of DASH by providing tools which make it easier to adopt this robust standard,” stated Michael Stattmann, Managing Director of castLabs.

To enable digital rights management for either application, a DRM system will need to be used. castLabs can seamlessly integrate their cloud-based multi-DRM service, DRMtoday, to provide this security.
