NRK sees Nordic Ski Championships 2017 as a game changer in the online viewing trends

NRK (Norwegian Public Broadcasting Cooperation) coverage of the World Ski Championships in Lahti, Finland, was a great success for the Norwegian athletes and a significant achievement for the NRK web-TV service.

Stockholm, Sweden(28 Mar 2017)

“NRK is proud of having successfully brought one of the biggest winter sports event in the world to so many connected users, but is also excited to be part of the major changes in the audience’s consumption,” says Andreas Munkelien, Head of IP distribution at NRK.

NRK used their, well-established online service NRK TV, to have a wall-to-wall live coverage of the International Ski Federation’s 2017 Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti, Finland.

Norwegians are increasingly using the online TV for daily usage. Live sports such as the Nordic Ski Championships has resulted in streaming peaks never before encountered in Norway. The device types used to watch the live event ranged across mobiles, tablets, connected TV and devices while desktops dominated during working hours.

“IP-Only Qbrick’s solution has been important for us to fulfil our multi-CDN strategy and to bring an uninterrupted viewing experience to our online audiences. ” says Andreas Munkelien.

“Qbrick was chosen by NRK as a premium quality streaming provider. We are naturally proud of contributing to the unique NRK multi-CDN solution and being part of NRK’s road to the future”, concludes Mats Victorin, CEO of IP-Only Qbrick.
