Rohrdorf, Germany(05 Sep 2012)

When it comes to the latest trends in the TV industry, decision makers rely on the International Broadcast Conference (IBC) in Amsterdam, where the stimuli for future technology trends take shape. TechnoTrend Görler (TTG), a KATHREIN Group company and leading provider of digital TV set top boxes solutions, is exhibiting at the IBC from September 7 to 11 highlights that focus on hybrid IPTV solutions, new middleware, Push VOD, and entry-level set top boxes with different encryption systems. TTG’s Management, Sales, Technology and Procurement teams invite international B2B customers* to a personal chat, to get to know one another and to try out the innovative new technologies on three product islands at the company’s Booth A58 in Hall 1 of the RAI Convention and Exhibition Center in Amsterdam.

Hybrid TV can be so easy. TTG is presenting three new set top boxes that come with Beenius BeeSmart middleware and either built-in digital rights management (DRM) or built-in encryption (CAS or Conditional Access System). BeeSmart is a flexible and function-rich interactive TV service platform with an intuitive user interface. It enables the user to watch live and on-demand TV content and to use advanced PVR functions in addition to targeted advertising, games and chats. Content such as videos can, of course, be streamed directly from the TTG set top box to a wide range of client terminals such as TVs, tablet PCs and other mobile terminal devices. For hybrid use of IPTV and DVB-C, TTG products on show at the IBC are the TT-micro IPC8391 (with a built-in Conax CAS) and the TT-micro IPC8397 (with a built-in Verimatrix CAS). The TT-micro IPS8390 is a DVB-S2/S model that also incorporates a CI+ slot for flexible Pay TV pleasure. All three are energy-efficient and come with built-in Verimatrix DRM and fast booting and switching. A cost-optimized further development of well-known TechnoTrend Görler hybrid products also makes them even more attractive for operators.

Four New Entry-level Set Top Boxes with Different Encryption Systems

With middleware of its own, TTG mainly aims to attract small to midrange cable network operators. The functions of this user interface include the depiction of individually designed customer service pages featuring, for example, the cable network operator’s special offers. There is also a banner advertising option. Products on show at the IBC 2012 include the first HD digital set top boxes with TTG middleware, the TT-micro C811 and the TT-micro C812 with built-in Conax pairing encryption. The TT-micro C812 also has a CI+ slot. For satellite reception there is the TT-micro S812 and for terrestrial reception the TT-micro T916 including a built-in hard disk and Irdeto encryption.

Push VOD: Cooperation with Partner

Just as it did last year, TTG is cooperating with its partner Logiways to focus on Push Video-on-Demand (Push VoD) solutions for markets without a feedback or reverse channel. The service works without a cost-intensive broadband connection and can be used in digital TV networks. Activating the content presents no problems and is easily done by sending a text message (GSM/UMTS, 2G and 3G). The TT-micro S918 HD set top box (satellite) and TT-micro T918 (DVT-T2) use the Logiways Push VoD solution VodAccess to feed encrypted films to the built-in hard disk. The user can download these films from a VoD portal and play them at any time – a practical value-added service that network operators without a feedback channel can offer their customers.

*For German retailers there is a separate portfolio which is not on show at the IBC 2012.
