CDNetworks US 2008 Momentum - 300% Revenue Increase, 5X Customer Base Growth – Fulfills Promise of “Customer First”
CDNetworks Adds POPs in South America and Australia; Adds VPs Vikas Garg, John Kang, and Sarah Willis; US Staff grows five-fold
San Jose, CA
CDNetworks, a top-three global, full-service content delivery network (CDN), today reported results from its first full year of operation in the United States, including 300% growth in revenue and a five-fold increase in the US customer base, demonstrating the success of its key focus on ?customer first.? In 2008, CDNetworks expanded its network infrastructure to two additional continents and rolled out its broad base of CDN technology and services in the US, including a new Customer Portal and key partner relationships. CDNetworks US also reported a five-fold increase in headcount of the US team and the addition of key, industry veterans at the executive level, including Sarah Willis, Vikas Garg and John Kang.
CDNetworks, founded in 2000, is the third largest Global CDN. It began an aggressive US expansion in late 2007 with the addition of CDN industry executive Robert Gribnau as Vice President of Sales. Gribnau quickly assembled a team of seasoned sales executives to develop customer opportunities in the gaming, retail, media and entertainment, and technology sectors. The result of the teams? efforts for 2008 is a five-fold increase, from 20 to 122 customers, adding to CDNetworks? worldwide customer base of over 1000 customers. Revenue in the US from 2007 to 2008 has increased 300%.
CDNetworks attributes its accelerated ramp up in the US to its clear focus on exceptional customer service with a ?customer first? approach. In surveying US customers and prospects, when first expanding from Asia to the US market, CDNetworks found that the CDN market was not, as commonly thought, a ?commodity? sector that was driven solely by price. Rather, top criteria when selecting a CDN were: flexible operations, responsiveness to customer?s needs, and service reliability. These criteria are in direct alignment with CDNetworks? corporate core values and have served as the foundation for US growth.
Jim Davis, Senior Analyst of Networks & Media at Tier 1 Research, says, ?To be competitive, CDN service providers must offer more than low prices. While customers don?t always consider pre-sales engineering and post-sales technical support when considering the cost of a content delivery service, these are key elements in long-term customer satisfaction. CDN vendors should develop and articulate their capabilities in these areas. Vendors that provide exceptional customer support can differentiate themselves from the competition, and improve their profitability in the long-term.?
CDNetworks continued to expand its global network infrastructure in 2008, adding POPs in two new continents ? Australia and South America, in Brazil. The expansion results in a total of 67 POPs on five continents, which also includes Asia -- including mainland China -- North America, and Europe. This worldwide reach of network coverage enables CDNetworks to fulfill its promise of optimum service for its customers in delivering content to their users in all parts of the world.
CDNetworks has also expanded its technology offerings in the US market through both the deployment of in-house technology offerings and key partnership relationships. In 2008, CDNetworks expanded and deepened relationships with key partners Adobe and Microsoft. CDNetworks has demonstrated leadership in early customer deployment in the US of its Adobe Flash Media Server 3 platform and is currently operating a beta program for version 3.5. CDNetworks also enjoys strong global relationships with Microsoft for its Silverlight program. In addition to rolling out CDNetworks? broad range of CDN products and services in the US market in 2008, CDNetworks launched an enhanced Customer Portal service that provides expanded content management and reporting tools. These robust tools enable customers to easily view and manage online projects and allow CDNetworks to extend its customer service focus deep into each customer?s specific operation.
During 2008, the US team grew five-fold, from eight to forty employees, expanding in Sales, Business Development, R&D, Operations, Customer Service, and Marketing. The team plans to grow by an additional 50% in 2009. US team leadership now includes Simon Lee, US Country Manager; Vikas Garg, Vice President of Engineering; Robert Gribnau, Vice President of Sales; John Kang, Vice President of Business Development; and Sarah Willis, Vice President of Marketing. Garg brings 16 years of networking experience to CDNetworks, including nine years of technology leadership in the CDN industry. He leads the engineering team in the development and deployment of new CDN technologies for the global market. Kang joined CDNetworks in early 2008 and leverages extensive global experience in cable, media, and telecommunications with firms including Samsung Electronics, PA Consulting, Disney Channel, and AT&T. Willis joined the team in September and brings over 20 years of experience in both B2B and B2C marketing, most recently in the CDN sector with Internap and VitalStream.
?CDNetworks US has grown in both size and industry recognition over the past year. Now acknowledged as a top three global, full-service CDN, it is the very best choice for customers who want real customer service and support,? said Simon Lee, CDNetworks US Country Manager. ?We are excited about our opportunities in the US and are positioned as the leading CDN for customers wanting to expand to a truly global presence.?
