Apple and Adobe Video Battle Conquered by ipercast and Wowza Media Systems

London(22 Jun 2010)

Apple's unwillingness to let Adobe's Flash® run on its iPhone and iPad has caused problems for web developers, designers and content distributers.  This has been solved by a new service launched by content and delivery specialists, ipercast with the deployment of the Wowza Media Systems award-winning media server technology.

The new video system overcomes the uncertainties generated by the recent disputes among some of the leading platform providers, enabling all clients to deliver smooth streaming to any end user device such as a traditional PCs, mobiles and even TVs.

By implementing Wowza's Media Server 2 along with ipercast's universal transcoding platform which changes any multimedia format into the correct format for the end user device, all video interoperability issues are solved. Web developers, designers and content distributers no longer need to worry about protocols and codecs, strengthening ipercast's position as the premier content delivery specialist for all end user devices, including the iPhone and iPad.

Jean-Michel Laveissière, CEO of ipercast, comments:

"Video streaming on mobile devices has become a strategic challenge for all the leading players in the industry, and the fierce competition has resulted in conflict and compatibility problems. The end users are the real victims of this situation but with our solution, our clients no longer have to worry about the clash between Apple and Adobe on the Flash technology, or the arguments on what will be the standard video codec for HTML5. Customers can now be assured that their videos will be viewed by everyone."

Alex Dobrushin, CMO of Wowza Media Systems, comments:

"With our Wowza Media Server 2 solution, ipercast will be able to distribute video content to many more destinations, including mobile devices like the iPhone and iPad, as well as the Adobe Flash and Microsoft Silverlight players.  By leveraging the Wowza server's adaptive streaming capabilities, the best possible user experience will be offered."

"We have had an excellent relationship with ipercast for a long time, and are delighted to be expanding it beyond just offering Flash streaming capabilities."

This continued cooperation strengthens ipercast's core competency of delivering video content over IP to all devices including traditional PCs, mobiles, smartphones and even TVs. ipercast remains the only European specialist to control the entire media delivery value chain, from the hosting, transcoding, file protection, delivery and monetisation of video streams through the content delivery network and finally to the end user device.
