Ostmodern Aims to Simplify Video Delivery With Skylark Platform
The VOD platform combines a tailored video recommendation and delivery system with the ability to create unique front-end experiences.
The London-based video-on-demand specialist Ostmodern has unveiled Skylark, its platform for quickly creating customized VOD experiences. Designed to be a fully-featured one-stop application, Skylark contains both a content management system (CMS) and a set of APIs for integrating with other parts of the video workflow. The platform handles video ingest, region-specific content scheduling, and data collection. Companies can tie it to Ooyala, Akamai, and other third-party vendors.
Personalization was important for Ostmodern, so Skylark supports an editorially driven approach to video recommendations. Publishers can use that to create personalized experiences for customers. The idea, the company says, is to avoid the problem found in other VOD systems where customers see only a fraction of the total content library. The platform also supports social interactions and smart recommendations.
While Skylark was just released, Ostmodern has already used it with several clients including BFI Player and News Corp's BallBall. The company also counts BBC, ITV, Channel 4, and Virgin Media as customers.
