Accedo and Popbox Partner on Apps

Owners of the Popbox connected TV box will be happy to hear that new apps are coming their way. Syabas, which makes the Popbox, announced a partnership with Accedo Broadband, which creates interactive applications for IPTV and Connected TV, to create apps for Popbox devices.

The first set of apps will be a range of games from Accedo's Funspot portfolio of casual games.

"At Popbox, it is our aim to offer consumers an incredibly simple way to view your stored movies, images, and music, while having access to a whole host of compelling content apps," says Armando Lopez, vice president of strategic product marketing at Syabas. "Accedo understands the TV consumer experience thoroughly and has a proven record of TV application deployments. It was natural for us to include their applications on our Popbox platform."

While neither company has said when the new apps will debut, Syabas will be showing demos of the apps at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada, in early January, so it's at least after that.

"We are very excited to launch apps on the Popbox platform," adds Michael Lantz, CEO at Accedo Broadband. "The open nature of the Popbox platform makes it easy for us to reach our audience through an attractive OTT device. We plan to launch a range of our own apps as well as apps for our customers on these devices in the future."
