Valossa Launches Voice-Controlled, AI-Powered Video Search Engine

Automatically Identifies Video And Tags Metadata Via Deep Content Analysis; Enables The Most Powerful Features of New Apple TV OS For All Providers

Oulu, Finland(22 Sep 2015)

Valossa™ (Oulu, Finland) today announced both the company and its groundbreaking new AI-powered, deep content video search technology as a new, descriptive way of finding video content.

Powered by voice recognition, it is now possible to have your TV, mobile device or PC search engine know the answers to questions such as: “show me the science fiction films having double planet earths,” or “two dogs fall in love while eating a plate of spaghetti.”

A spin-off company of the University of Oulu, Valossa technology actually understands the contents of video files themselves through a combination of both text and pattern recognition AI. Designed for service and content providers, Valossa can reach down into their video content, identify it and make it searchable in a way never before possible.

Valossa’s proprietary engine understands both the deep content data of videos and provides novel solutions for content indexing and discovery. Valossa utilizes both audiovisual information and any metadata that describes the video content to provide new levels of search context. Valossa has also developed Deep Content technology that can be used to discover and recommend semantically-related content from large video collections.

By automatically analyzing and understanding video content, Valossa will help enable highly-relevant, autonomous insertion of ads into video content. Real-time video discovery & recommendations for live TV and recommendation of relevant content in real-time through a SmartTV / Set-Top Box are also now possible.

Totally cross-platform with Mac OS, Microsoft Windows and Linux, this server-side technology enables virtually identical functionality to the newly announced Apple® TV OS for any system provider. Valossa also integrates with all leading voice platform vendors, such as Amazon, Apple, Google® and Microsoft.

As a proof of concept, Valossa has made Whatismymovie.com available for demo testing and evaluation. The demonstration is designed to show how Valossa constructs unique Deep Content models from video content transcripts and metadata for a superior video search experience.

The IP for these new algorithms and services has been developed through several different university research projects with support from the Finnish Funding Agency for Innovation (Tekes) and the Academy of Finland – all IP is owned by Valossa.

Valossa Labs Oy is a new Finnish startup that includes a development team of Ph.D.’s and graduate students from the University of Oulu in Finland, specializing in NLP, AI and video search algorithms.  The company has raised a €600K seed round to date and is seeking additional investors and business partnerships as it launches its technology platform.
