Highwinds Unveils Strong Presence in Brazil

Network Build and Brazil-Based Team Position Highwinds for Success in Delivering CDN, IP Transit, Transport, Peering and Colocation Services to and from Latin America

LOS ANGELES(01 Nov 2010)

Streaming Media West – Highwinds, a leader in content delivery, network and IP services, today announced that it has established an operation in Latin America to support the region’s growing content delivery and network services needs. Highwinds’ foothold is supported by the infrastructure expansion of its RollingThunder network into Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and the hiring of two Brazilian industry veterans.  This move is rooted in Highwinds’ strategic objective to provide fast, reliable CDN, IP Transit, Transport, Peering and Colocation services to and from the region.

“Our content delivery and network services business is growing rapidly, and we are keen to invest in emergent markets such as Latin America,” said Steve Liddell, president of Content Delivery and Network Services for Highwinds.  “The hiring of an experienced Brazilian team, coupled with the significant network investment in the region, establishes a strong presence in this high-growth market.”

Highwinds’ RollingThunder network consists of a ringed, redundant architecture made up of multiple 10 Gbps connections between its more than 70 points of presence worldwide.  The network boasts more than 1,600 peering sessions and has visibility into 12,000 networks.  Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro are connected to North America and Europe by multiple dedicated 10 Gbps waves into Miami.  Highwinds will scale the infrastructure in line with sustained traffic growth in the region.

Highwinds’ expansion into Latin America is supported by its new Sao Paulo-based team, led by Brazil native Marco Medugno, who will serve as managing director, Latin America.  Medugno brings 15 years of network and telecommunications experience in partnership and customer development to this role.  Highwinds has also welcomed to the team Ricardo Pierini, who will leverage 14 years of experience in IP services sales in his role as sales director, Latin America.

“The rapid growth of broadband throughout Latin America is opening doors to more Internet-based technologies and applications; we’re seeing an increasing number of Latin American businesses wanting to implement online video, streaming media and other communication tools,” said Medugno, managing director, Latin America for Highwinds.  “The Highwinds System Suite has been well received in Brazil, with our first set of customers excited to leverage our robust global network and comprehensive suite of content delivery services.”

“Our new presence in Brazil and regional capabilities will enable us to address new customers in the region, but it is important to note that the opposite is also true.  By creating a presence in Latin America, we’re enabling our customers in other areas of the world to reach this market with fast, reliable content delivery and network services,” said Highwinds’ Liddell.
