Euskaltel Selects Edgeware to Deliver Next Generation TV On-Demand and Multiscreen Services

Edgeware’s consolidated delivery platform and NAGRA’s MediaLive multiscreen solution provides highly scalable and secure end-to-end delivery of all linear and on-demand TV services

Stockholm, Sweden(22 Sep 2015)

Edgeware, the leader in video delivery networks, announced today that Euskaltel, a leading cable operator in northern Spain, has selected Edgeware’s highly scalable Video Consolidation Platform (VCP) to cost-effectively deliver live streaming and on-demand services to QAM-connected set-top boxes (STBs) and IP multiscreen devices from one single delivery platform.

To increase subscriber satisfaction and loyalty, Euskaltel needed to expand its video offerings beyond the traditional linear functionalities. This called for a complete and fully integrated delivery system that could deliver the highest quality content and scale as the service grew. To meet Euskaltel’s requirements, the Edgeware VCP was integrated with NAGRA’s comprehensive multiscreen system, MediaLive, to provide the full end-to-end solution comprising of the Service Platform, Secure Player and White-Label Applications to deliver sophisticated live and on-demand features.

Edgeware’s VCP is a single, hardware-accelerated, software-defined platform for all IP video services and device types. The platform enables Euskaltel to dramatically reduce infrastructure and equipment costs while delivering guaranteed quality that customers demand. When integrated with NAGRA’s MediaLive solution, the platform securely enables premium TV content to be seamlessly delivered to both STBs and a broad range of open devices for an intuitive multiscreen video experience.

“Edgeware’s VCP allows us to offer our customers live and on-demand content on any device with a high quality of experience, meeting our customers’ demand not just now but also for years to come”, says Idoia Uriarte, Euskaltel TV Director.

“Scalability was a key reason Edgeware’s VCP was selected,” says Joachim Roos, CEO at Edgeware. “The ability to address immediate demands and easily and cost-effectively scale to enable new services, devices and customers on one platform is something no other company can deliver.”

Edgeware’s VCP consists of the VCP Edge, a highly-optimized CDN caching and distribution solution, and the VCP Origin, which collapses the need for many disparate pieces of head-end equipment into one efficient and powerful unit. Both products comprise of two enabling components: Edgeware’s Convoy Management Software, which provides the software definition layer, and Edgeware’s purpose-built Orbit servers.
