LoveFilm Signs Content Deal with Twentieth Century Fox

Amazon-owned streaming video service LoveFilm announced a multi-year content deal today with Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution. The deal will provide subscribers with access to recent movies and TV programs, but only during what's known as the second pay television window.

The arrangement will include movies released in the U.K. in 2011, but subscribers won't get access to the new titles until March 2013. LoveFilm didn't mention specific titles that will be available, but said that U.S. television programs "Sons of Anarchy" (early seasons only), and "24", "Prison Break," "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," and "Angel" (all seasons for those four) will be included.

The announcement was short on specifics, such as how many additional titles will be available to subscribers and how long the availability window will be. One of the problems with streaming movie services is that subscribers don't know how long they have access to titles, and are surprised when saved titles disappear from their queues. LoveFilm also didn't announce how much it had paid for the content.

"It feels great to announce another major studio deal for LoveFilm. Twentieth Century Fox is one of the world's leading studios, known across the globe for creating fantastic, iconic content. This partnership will give LoveFilm members access to the studio's huge range of recent movies and the opportunity to revisit some of the best American TV series produced in recent years," said Jim Buckle, managing director of LoveFilm.
