U.S. online video platform VMIX has announced that it's expanding into Europe, opening offices in Glasgow and London. Called VMIX Limited, the division will focus on local business development and market penetration, and will include a sales and marketing team.

VMIX says this is the first step of the company's goal to become a global presence and extend the reach of its platform-as-a-service enterprise solution.

"This is a well-considered step in our international growth plan," says Pat Burns, VMIX's president and CEO. "Establishing a presence in the U.K. allows us to build personal relationships with our European-based clients and partners, and provides critical insight into the growing online-video integration market there."

The U.K division will be led by Brian Keating, who has previously worked for Apple, Newbridge Networks, and Alcatel. He was founder and CEO of Thirdspace, a broadband TV solutions company, which was acquired by Alcatel in 2003.

"Brian brings the kind of technology and business experience to VMIX that can help us firmly establish and then boost the expansion of our operations throughout the U.K. and mainland Europe," says Burns. "We are thrilled to welcome him and expect that, before long, his team will be gaining ground, meeting the need European corporations have for online-video integration with the strength and scalability of our platform."
